Nasturtiums help me pretend
that I don’t live where it’s hot and dry
that I live where it’s wet and cool
but these nasturtiums are nursed
and as the season progresses
they wane
neither able nor wanting
to continue in lies
Alyssum is nature’s little joy
showing kindness where none is required
giving constant bloom
expecting nothing in return
my whole street has been seeded
by alyssum’s generosity
